This will cap at 80%, but it still gives gamers a hefty advantage against any of Hades' enemies.
If God Mode has been selected, gamers can enjoy 20% damage resistance which increases by 2% each time one of Zagreus' escape attempts ends in death. However, some aspects of Hades, like its God Mode setting, might be better off if they were nothing but ancient history. Hades established a fascinating world based on Greek myths and legends, and its compelling non-linear narrative and challenging combat were the perfect combination to introduce the world of the new IP. While there will be a collection of new characters introduced in Hades 2, including the powerful goddess of witchcraft Hecate and Chronos, the Titan of Time, gamers might also wonder what is being retained from the beloved first game. Supergiant Games has already revealed how Hades 2 is going to be making some changes, including following a new protagonist in the form of Zagreus' sister Melinoe and putting more of a focus on magic, but not much is known about the sequel just yet. After the universal acclaim of the first game, expectations are already high for Hades 2, and many players are wondering how the developer is going to deliver another fast-paced and fun entry.

Hades is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X, and is playable through Xbox Game Pass.Supergiant Games' roguelike was an instant hit upon its release in 2020, and fans were delighted when it was revealed in 2022 that Hades 2 was on the way. Perhaps this time, armed with a better controller, I’ll even manage to topple the game’s true final boss, Charon. But I’m right back in the thick of it, just 18 escape attempts in, already making things harder for myself with the game’s Pact of Punishment and other self-imposed challenges. They happen faster than anticipated I was certain going back into the game that I’d be slightly bored reacquiring all of Zagreus’ abilities, weapons, trinkets, and other aspects of the game.
On the other hand, it’s been a pleasant surprise to see Hades’ perfectly paced gameplay mechanics unfurl again on a new playthrough. I’m zooming through the game’s rich dialogue and organic character development, hastily uncovering truths about Zagreus’ history and befriending every Olympian in record time. What once felt like a challenge now feels like a speedrun. As a still-underpowered Zagreus, I managed to best Hades and escape the Underworld on my 13th attempt. I blitzed through much of its story revelations this go round, which felt bittersweet. The act of playing it again has certainly been different. (Though it is certainly nice to see Hades load more quickly and look sharper on PS5.) It is nearly identical to its previously released counterparts: It’s still the same amazingly addictive roguelike action-adventure that made Hades Polygon’s 2020 game of the year.
For as much as I loved playing Hades on the Switch, I love it even more on PS5.īeyond that, I have little to add that might surprise you about the PS5 version of Hades that I’ve been playing this week.
Or rather, the DualSense is simply a better, more responsive controller than the standard Joy-Cons that come with the Switch, and not having to wrestle with the lag, drift, and lost connections that plague Nintendo’s detachable controllers makes Hades so much more enjoyable.
